1. What’s UPS? |
UPS is the short for Uninterrupted Power System. UPS is a kind of stable voltage and frequency uninterrupted power, which is composed with saving device and inverter (the main part of it). 3. How to choose UPS? |
| First of all, choose a capacity of UPS. All kinds brand of UPS power capacity is currently labeled apparent power as its nominal value and its unit is VA. However the machinery room and FTF are labeled with active power and the unit is W. And so we need to convert to active power of UPS' output, that is P=VA × Cos f . If the loads are too large, that can affect the lifetime and reliability of power; if too small, that will not only make waste of investment on equipments, but also lead to deep discharge of batteries after long time micro current discharge. These cause that the batteries can never be restored. So the reasonable UPS loads should be 25%---80% of its active power rating.

Fix on a suitable type of UPS according to output capacity, output voltage, frequency stability, output waveform, switching time, protection function and dual sets backup function and so on of loads: Normal frequency On-line UPS, High frequency On-line UPS, Line-interactive UPS and standby UPS. Normal frequency On-line UPS and High frequency On-line UPS are all applies to frequency technology, the first difference is that the normal frequency on-line UPS output power factor lags 0.8-1 but the high frequency on-line UPS lags 0.7; the second difference is that the normal frequency on-line UPS has an input isolation transformer but the high frequency on-line UPS hasn't.

A . What's Standby UPS: when the commercial power is normal, the UPS will make the voltage be stable and also make the inverter prepare to work. Once the commercial power is abnormal, the UPS will invert quickly and switch batteries energy to alternating current and start supplying power for the loads. Hereby there is a switch cycle when standby UPS inverts to work. Often the time will not be over 10MS. The UPS series will seriously pollute electricity network, and have a low anti-jamming ability and single circuitry but low prices. This series is used for office or home terminal units (charger is separated from inverter).

B . What's Line-interactive UPS: both charger and inverter, so it is named dual transform UPS. It is that: when the input commercial power is normal, the inverter is charging the batteries; once the input commercial power is fluctuating, it immediately starts inverting batteries power to output alternating current. Accordingly, there is also a switch cycle of line-interactive UPS. Compared with Standby UPS, the line-interactive UPS has stronger protection ability and good waveform (highly reliable uninterruptible sine wave). The UPS power with software function can be very convenient in remote monitoring and smart management. The type is suitable for server and minitype.

C . What's normal frequency on-line UPS: inverter works all the time. After being turned on it will be in the working operation. And if the commercial power is normal, the UPS charger will charge for the storage batteries and switch direct current to alternating current but not that the commercial power supply to the equipment directly; in case the commercial power is abnormal, the switch cycle of supplying power switching from UPS to batteries is “zone”. The type UPS has a strong software management power and is suitable for workstation, network device of a demanding department or region.

According to the demand working time of loads, UPS is classified in extra long standby time UPS and standard UPS when the electricity network is abnormal or in case the power is cut. The engines of extra long type UPS is not used with standby batteries. It is on the basis the demand working time of loads to scheme the capacity and quantity of out-set battery. The engines of standard UPS is used with batteries, and once the electricity network is abnormal or the power is cut it will supply power to loads by set-in batteries. The standby time is respectively: standby UPS is about 3---12mins, line-interactive UPS and normal frequency on-line UPS are about 7---25mins.
